Superhuman Happiness' Resume
The concept for Superhuman Happiness integrates clapping exercises, new approaches to tonality, dance music, folk melodies from our collective cultural minds, improv games, constructive collaborative composition, and art/video/costumes by Tatiana McCabe.
Their first album, Fall Down Seven Times Stand Up Eight, is a collection of songs composed by band leader Stuart Bogie as Christmas gift for his family about a decade ago. Several of them were composed as Bogie worked as a medical secretary. After a long and difficult tour with Antibalas, Bogie returned to New York and sought to apply everything he had gathered from the last ten years into producing a record of songs that had never seen much light. The result is Fall Down Seven Times…, an eclectic adventure in sound tooled in the basement on the legendary tascam 388 8 track tape recorder.
The band has a seven inch and a 45 out on Electric Cowbell Records. GMYL/Hounds (7") was recorded at the late great Stay Gold studio and features vocals by Bogie and Jared Samuel. CSC Funk Band/Superhuman Happiness (split 45) features the track Human Happiness and was co-produced by Zachary Mastoon, aka Caural.
The band has 2 tracks with Sahr Ngaujah, who Bogie knows through the Fela! musical. Those tracks are soon to be released on Electric Cowbell Records.
The band has had airplay on WFMU and KCRW.
With performances at numerous clubs around New York, the band had recent success at the Undead Jazz Fest and looks forward to performances at Prospect Park with Sahr Ngaujah and the Montreal POP festival.
Their music is currently being used in the underground radio show Left in LA, hosted by David Cousin and Zoe Verkulin-Blillie and produced by Dave Sitek.
